Youth & Vocations Dinner Dance 2014....a Blissful event.
Friday the 14th of February 2014, Youth and Vocation of the Archdiocese
of Harare held a Valentine Dinner Dance in conjunction with Radio
Chiedza at Jubilee Hall. This event was graced by the “who-is-who” in
the archdiocese.
Guests were in a jovial mood, dressed to kill in the love colors red and black. Fr Maganga, the spiritual director for Youth and Vocations in his welcome remarks, stated categorically: “This gathering aims, not only to celebrate Valentine’s Day, rather, it is a fundraising project towards the National Youth Congress that is to be held in Hwange diocese in August this year” he said.
The most intriguing component on the evening was the presence of the popular female artist, Pah Chihera, whose song “Ndirwo Rudo” is currently dominating the local music charts. Her music is a unique genre of Afro Jazz. She shared the stage with our own Brian Nyahuma, warming the stage with his best song “Zuva Ranhasi”, igniting fire on the dance floor.
It only took a few minutes before Fr Maganga, the spiritual director grabbed the microphone singing along the late John Chibadura’s song “Ndiwe here Mudiwa Janet”, a song that hit the floor in a reggae genre.
Another great speaker walked the audience with her straight questions. Sr Anita Jonga, the Youth Coordinator of the Harare Archdiocese was steaming in ‘love questions’. “Valentine day is an annual event and very important but the big question is; ‘Are you celebrating this day with a person who is of great importance in your life or are you going to celebrate the day with the same person whom you have today next year?” She added that the event was profitable because of a good turn up and support from different organizations like Radio Chiedza and Magis+.

Archdiocese of Harare Youth & Vocations sends 801 Youths to Hwange National Congress August 2014.
About 3 000 youths from the country’s 8 Dioceses converged at Dete
Minor seminary in Hwange Diocese for the first ever National Catholic
Youth Congress from the 14th to the 17th of August 2014. Archdiocese of Harare managed to send the highest number of youths (801) to the National Congress. Western Deanery did justice in terms of marketing the event sending close to 300 youths from their deanery. The congress
gave youths from different dioceses the opportunity to socialize, pray
learn about the church and share different cultures. Most Rev. Bishop
Xavier Munyongani celebrated Holy Mass on 15 August and officially
opened the congress with a keynote address which was centered on the
theme. He also encouraged youthsnot to leave the Holy Catholic church..
Sr Dube explained the meaning of the word evangelization. She also explained the meaning of the expression ‘new evangelization’ and how youths can embark on this great mission as everyone is sent to be ‘fishers of men’. She went briefly into explaining the Vatican council that entails participation of the laity. She also elaborated on the function of the church in a society and the role of youths .
Vocational talk by Fr J. Moyo
The talk concentrated more on consecrated life and what it means for an individual to give their life to Christ as a Priest, Nun, Brother or Monk. He also talked about God’s calling and cited examples from the Bible of men who were called to do his work and urged youths to listen to God’s calling .
Vocation fair
Youths had a wonderful time hearing first hand information from different Orders/Congregations that presented on their respective Patron Saints as well as missions.
Talk on social life fundamentals by Fr. Musendeki
This talk was described by many youths as spiritually uplifting as it dwelt on the day to day activities that youths engage in i.e relationships and sex, alcohol, drugs. The priest motivated youths to desist from unchristian activities such as pregnancy termination.
